The legendary opera "Juno and Avos" on the stage of the Russian Song Theater. Theater poster - reviews of the performance

The Alexey Rybnikov Theater is quite young. Productions take place here musical performances. Music is used exclusively by Alexey Rybnikov himself. The composer's legendary rock operas are also performed here.

Alexey Rybnikov

The Alexey Rybnikov Theater was created by the composer himself. He was born in 1945 in Moscow. Alexey Lvovich's father was a violinist in an orchestra, and his mother was an artist. A. Rybnikov wrote his first works in childhood, as an eight-year-old boy. These were small pieces for piano. At the age of eleven he wrote a ballet called Puss in Boots.

The future composer graduated from Central music school city of Moscow and entered the conservatory, the composition department. Alexey Lvovich was a student of composer Aram Khachaturian. A. Rybnikov graduated from the Conservatory in 1967 with honors and remained in his educational institution as a teacher, where he worked for 6 years. In 1989 he graduated from graduate school.

In 1979, Alexey Lvovich was recognized as the most popular composer in the country and was awarded an international film festival prize in the category “ Best Music to the film." In 1999 he received the title of People's Artist.

Alexey Lvovich is the author of music for the legendary rock operas: “Juno and Avos”, “The Star and Death of Joaquin Murrieta”, “War and Peace”; to the films: “Treasure Island”, “One Hundred Steps in the Clouds”, “Horseman Above the City”, “When the Earth Trems”, “Mustachioed Nanny”, “The Adventures of Pinocchio”, “A Dog Walked on a Piano”, “Alien Company”, “ That same Munchausen", "Day Train", "The Imaginary Invalid", "Vasily Buslaev", "Tsar Ivan the Terrible", " Grand Duchess Elizabeth", "Star", "The Tale of the Star Boy", "Andersen. Life without love”, “About Little Red Riding Hood”, etc.; for animated films: “Mummy Troll”, “Anansi the Spider”, “The Wolf and the Seven Little Goats on new way", "Black Hen", "Feast of Disobedience", etc. He also wrote the mystery play "Liturgy of the Catechumens", musical drama"Maestro Massimo", the ice ballet "Toy Store", many symphonic works, chamber and choral music.

History of the theater

The Alexey Rybnikov Theater has existed since 1992. Initially, the composer created it in order to stage his new work - the mystery “Liturgy of the Catechumens”. The building where rehearsals and performances took place was very small; the auditorium had only 40 seats. In 1999, the theater was given state status. In 2008, the troupe presented to the public the premiere of the rock opera “Joaquin” (the old name was “The Star and Death of Joaquin Murrieta”). The premiere of the production “Juno and Avos” took place in 2009. The troupe goes on tour throughout Russia and abroad. To this day, the Alexey Rybnikov Theater does not have its own stage. Actors who perform roles in plays in Moscow most often play in the House of Music.

Repertoire

The Alexey Rybnikov Theater differs from others in its exclusively original repertoire. There are rock operas for adults and musicals for children.

A. Rybnikova:

  • "Little Red Riding Hood".
  • "War and Peace".
  • "Pinocchio."
  • “Juno and Avos. New version."
  • "Liturgy of the Catechumens."
  • "Joaquin."
  • "Hallelujah of love."

Artists

The troupe of the Alexey Rybnikov Theater consists of 25 wonderful artists.

Once in an interview, Alexey Rybnikov admitted that the existence of modern musical theater is possible and should be in three forms: some kind of experimental laboratory in which new compositions would be staged, an active traveling troupe touring cities and countries, introducing the public to the work of the theater, and a recording studio working on creating discs, thanks to which, access to works-products of the Theater will have maximum quantity people.

The idea of creating such a theater came to the composer back in the second half of the 80s, but to implement it, premises and funds were needed. The need for one’s own home became especially urgent at the time of completion of work on a new work - the mystery opera “Liturgy of the Catechumens”, the process of composing which lasted several years. And when it came to an end, Alexey Rybnikov realized that he himself had to stage this complex composition. But for this you need your own platform, your own theater. The search for premises yielded results - in one of the Arbat alleys, in the basement of an ancient house, a new theater- at that time private, which the composer rebuilt and equipped with equipment with his own money and thanks to the help of a few sponsors.

In a small chamber hall with a little over 40 seats, the “Liturgy of the Catechumens” was released. This happened in the fall of 1992. Afterwards, the performance was performed regularly 5–7 times a month. An extremely limited number of people could attend one performance. But despite this, thousands visited here. And everyone always had a strong impression of the work itself, of the whole unreal atmosphere of the Alexei Rybnikov Theater: a huge entrance door, a descent down the stairs leading to a mysterious dungeon, high walls upholstered in fabric, a velvet hall in which the sounds of footsteps were drowned out...

Years have passed. During this time, the Theater went on tour to America and gave performances in Moscow. And then there came a break: due to the crisis of the 90s, which gripped the theatrical and cinematic spheres, the Theater seemed to find itself
in a vacuum. Only titanic efforts artistic director allowed us to preserve this rare example of Russian culture.

The revival of the Theater took place in 1999, when a private institution acquired the status of a State Creative Workshop under the leadership of Alexei Rybnikov.

Official support provided an incentive to continue work and implement new projects

02/17/2019 Moscow, Mosconcert Hall. There was no time to return the tickets, so we had to go. And so, you know, what’s surprising, it’s good that we burned them in advance for good reason. It turned out great. I could not have imagined that I would say this. Thank God I wasn’t at Karachentsov, otherwise the buffoon knows how it would have been perceived. The scenery is minimal, the music is recorded, but not very bad and in almost perfect sound quality. They sang, thank God, truly live. Young guys. They gave it their all. The choreography is not random, it’s like a code, a sea of information. In short, think about it, I have no complaints. That's so strange. Well done. Well, since this is the second time in this place, and with the phrase “The theater begins with a coat rack,” and it ends with it, in the sense of a serpentine queue for a jacket half an hour or an hour before and after, here instead of focusing on the applause at the end, one of us will have to "Hallelujah" run. So I listened to Bisnaya’s “You Wake Me Up at Dawn” with the jackets I got from the cafe lobby, waiting for that same “barefoot” to come out. In short, we don’t regret going at all. And reviews of the native Lenkomovsky with Pevtsov are not encouraging. Native, by the way, is now in question. Here at the end it was announced: “Rybnikov Theater.” So, it seems, in the best traditions. It's not a shame for the country. And I really wanted to write a devastating review. From last Thursday's Romeo and Juliet. The topic there was completely consumer goods, and I didn’t want to rattle off the letters, there was no need. And here, I was ready, - For Karachentsov!, - For Voznesensky!, - For Rybnikov! in the end, - to work for the good of the fatherland, “Purchase two tickets at the Moscow box office with your own funds,” but to visit and put it in writing to protect those who are struggling with the question “to go, not to go.” It wasn't necessary. Go! The review was not paid for, rest assured. UPD: After the disastrous "Romeo and Julien" three days earlier in the same place, we were looking for an opportunity to return tickets at home. We thought about resale while standing in a 40-50 meter long queue snaking across the entire hall. My faithful knight tried to walk unnoticed with his jackets, so as not to experience the same thing after the performance, to which he heard a masterpiece: “We won’t start until we undress everyone.” Later, during the standard Moshall delay of 15 minutes, we mentally speculated that we had completely forgotten here. And then the action began. And then I don’t know how to describe it. It was something that, once completed, is difficult and you don’t want to discuss, but want to bury within yourself. It seems that the plot is dramatic, and the topics raised are serious, but the aftertaste is warm, light and somehow nostalgic. The most powerful voices, and they are also gentle when needed. Mesmerizing choreography. And all this does not contradict each other in any way, does not scatter attention, but lives and breathes as one. And the dance, which seems to be the background to the performance, is beautiful to the point of goosebumps. The guys are handsome, the girls here are of secondary importance, but they are also an aesthetic pleasure for the eyes and ears - they are all alive, real and give their all (in the final composition the priest even shed a stingy touching tear, but he is not a sailor). The leading actor somehow resembled the devil-tempter in a white shirt and boots, also in reddish lighting, that type. Although Rezanov is like that in some ways. He, of course, occupies the main place in the musical, but there is no eclipse of others, everyone is good, everything is in unison. And the lightness and girlishness of the actress performing Conchita, who, by the way, is only 15 in the story. All this can be described and praised endlessly. Costumes and scenery are a separate theme: nothing superfluous and complete self-sufficiency (simple white shirts and bare feet in some scenes, bright passionate outfits at a Spanish ball, a caricatured, painted emperor walking on chairs obsequiously placed for his noble feet - everything is where and when needed need to). Subtle, soulful, powerful, thank you.

I'll never see you again
I will never forget you...

But interesting story, associated with the rock opera “Juno and Avos”

This post can be viewed here:

In February 2002, Ken was invited to visit Russia for the first time. At that time, “Juno and Avos” was being mixed at Sony Music for a new version on CD and DVD. Then they told him this legendary history love and presented the disc.

Hensley was inspired, and a year and a half later he made a demo version of this ballad. I showed it to Rybnikov, who didn’t mind (Alexey Lvovich respects Ken very much). After that, Ken included this song in the list of songs on his “home” album “Cold Autumn Sunday”.

It is interesting to note that very few people, even famous musicians in our country, when they played this composition, they recognized it as “I will never forget you...” What a story!
