Let's learn to dance twerk step by step. How to learn to twerk and master other new types of fitness. What Alice learned

Ask the average passerby: “What is twerking?” In response, you will see either bewilderment, or the person will begin to talk with admiration in all the details about this direction in dancing. Twerk has been known to dancers for twenty years, but only after 2013 this dance became popular in all countries of the world. The main movement is to shake the buttocks, while focusing on the hips and the whole body. For most classical dancers or choreographers, twerking is a strange and overt dance, but nevertheless it has become an integral part of the whole culture.

It seems that you need to “kill” a lot of time to master the simplest body movements, but is this true? According to choreographers, you can learn twerking on your own without visiting a dance studio. It is enough to know the basic movements and work on your own physical fitness.

How to learn to dance twerk (twerking, booty dance) at home?

Before posting your dance video on the Internet, it’s better to read the important tips from professionals to make it go faster and more efficiently:

  • Every girl can twerk, and for this it is not necessary to go on a diet or eat buns, gaining extra centimeters on her hips;
  • Every day you need to learn the vocabulary of movements, at least 5 words a day. Knowing the terminology, it will be easier to navigate the choreography;
  • away with all embarrassment and constraint! Twerking is created for self-confident girls, and besides, it teaches you to be sexy;
  • to many viewers it seems that the dancer is shaking his buttocks, but more of a kind of shaking or jolting is felt. You can teach the “fifth point” to jump quite quickly, you just need to first throw it up, and perform the next movement with a smaller scope. When doing this, you need to either speed up or slow down your movements;
  • Your hands will become your assistants in the dance. In order for the movements to be amplitude, it is better to place your hands on your belt, this will help throw the desired part of the body up;
  • stretch to make your movements more impressive. If you squat lower, spread your legs wider, and relax your arms, the dance will be more organic and dynamic;
  • Since all movements in twerking are performed on half-bent legs, you need to maintain your physical fitness at its best. To do this, you need to constantly pump the muscles in your legs. The dance will look more impressive if they are strong;
  • don’t forget to pump up your abs;
  • since the dance style involves short T-shirts and shorts, a flat tummy and convex forms will only become an adornment of the dancer. Watch your diet so that beautiful shapes do not turn into fatty legs and folds;
  • every movement and dance as a whole should bring only positive emotions. They need to be felt, so step away from the mirror and start dancing!

Twerking is recognized as a new dance trend. The viewer first became acquainted with this style in the videos of Western performers. After 3 decades, the dance, elements of which were demonstrated only by dancers in nightclubs, became popular throughout the world.

Twerk is modern dance, in which the buttocks, hips, stomach and arms of the dancer, usually a girl, move rhythmically.

The dance is daring and provocative. The term “twerk” first appeared in popular song DJ Jubilee in 1993.

New Orleans is considered to be the birthplace of the word. Now the word “twerk” is an officially recognized movement in the dance world. In 2013, it was added to the Oxford Dictionary.

The commercial name of the dance is Booty dance (translated from English as “booty dance”). The twerk dance is performed both by a group of participants and solo.

The dance style is based on African traditional movements. In Quitata, the dance is performed with straight legs, and the gluteal muscles move freely and naturally.

In mapuka you not only need to shake your buttocks, but also take steps, make turns and work with your hands. Bobarabu is danced both sitting and on the floor. New style became a harmonious interweaving of these three dances.

Twerking requires a lot of emotional and physical stress. The performer must strive to have perfect control of his body. Also valued is the dancer’s ability to perform a complex rhythmic pattern with the buttocks (rump shaking) and plastic movements of the hips and stomach (hip rolling).

Not only correctly executed elements are important, but also the individual image of the dancer. This is very important for creating the energy of the dance.

Miley Cyrus dances twerk

Should be excluded clothes that are too loose because they will interfere with the dance. Shoes should be light and comfortable.

For beginners, leggings, a T-shirt and thick-soled sneakers are the appropriate form. Some people prefer to dance barefoot. The form for performances includes nudity of the body within the bounds of decency.

Tight-fitting clothing favorably emphasizes the contours of the body, which is necessary for the perception of dance. For performances you can choose coated leggings and top. Sparkling particles of the material visually round out the shape and help you look sexy.

For owners A bust top is suitable for large breasts. This way you can advantageously emphasize the curves of the body and demonstrate a flat stomach. Dancers complement their look with accessories.

Shorts for twerking

Another common bottom clothing option is shorts. To maintain standards of decency You can wear tights underneath.

Shorts look very advantageous in combination with knee socks or leg warmers. If denim shorts are chosen for dancing, then deep cuts are made on them. Then the fabric will not hinder movement.

Twerk moves

This dance style is characterized by the following energetic movements:

  • rotation of the buttocks;
  • vibration of the buttocks;
  • movements of only one buttock;
  • lumbar rotation;
  • rhythmic rotation of the hips;
  • hip strikes;
  • description of figure eight with hips.

The lower body moves independently of the upper. The dance is performed on half-bent legs. You need to straighten your body and look ahead. Shoulders should be at the same level, and legs should be shoulder-width apart. Then you will be able to sit down correctly in the dance. In a squat, the buttocks move back, and the back forms a bend in the lower back.

When rotating your buttocks forward, your fingers rest on your lower back. If you rotate your buttocks back, fingers rest on hip bones. You can do without using your hands, but simply stretch them in front of you and connect them into a lock.

If the dance is performed on the floor, then you should rest your hands on the floor and bend your knees slightly. The toes of the feet need to be turned to the sides. When actively shaking the buttocks, the legs straighten and bend.

The following movements of the buttocks are also performed: leaning back, then pulling forward. The hips perform horizontal movements from side to side.

Twerk - lessons for beginners:

We know actress Kristina Ponunaeva not only as the princess from “Fairy Tales U” and the charming, not very smart blonde from “Country U” on the TET channel.

Actress Kristina Ponunaeva practices dancing and yoga, is great at humor, stars in the new TV series “Zirkonavti,” where she plays artificial intelligence, and shares all this on Instagram.

Having reviewed her current stories with twerking for the tenth time, where she dances herself and trains the girls, a meeting to talk about dance was inevitable.

- Christina, how long have you been dancing and how did you come to twerking? Why do you like it?

I have been dancing since I was 4 years old. Why? As the classics sing: “Probably because all these are my chu-chu-feelings”... (laughs). As a child, I fell out of the stroller because my soul was eager to dance, and my eight-month-old body was not yet prepared for this.

As for twerking, five years ago I didn’t pass the “Dancing” casting on TNT. A director I knew, so that I wouldn’t be upset, showed me several videos of African-American women dancing and offered to film something similar. Well, we filmed it and called it Hard metal “TWERK” (laughs). I was very inspired by my friend’s support and began to develop in this direction.

- How did you learn to move like that? Did you go to classes or study in front of the mirror?

After watching hundreds of videos on Instagram and YouTube, as well as studying the origins of the dance, I began practicing in front of the mirror.

About the benefits of twerking

Twerking relaxes the lower abdomen, pelvis, and activates the muscles of the abs, thighs and, naturally, buttocks. And the whole body in the dance tightens itself, where it is needed it pumps up, where it is not needed it relaxes. With the help of twerking you can not only get fit, but also lose weight. This is a powerful cardio workout that burns quite a few calories, depending on your fitness level and intensity. And, of course, it’s a HIGH!

This shaking is beneficial for women. The whole dance is about relaxing and tensing the muscles of the buttocks, so when twerking it is important to keep your abs and not strain your lower back. You must have strong and strong quadriceps muscles to move like this.

Self Confidence

Dance is very liberating. For some reason, many girls are shy and believe that twerking is “vulgar” and “vulgar,” but those whose desire to learn prevails over embarrassment come out of training satisfied, wet, tired, but happy. They are proud of themselves, it is very noticeable. I often hear people say that I am a “tyrant,” but in this case it is a compliment. Plus, men like this dance, I know this from personal experience.

How to start dancing twerk

First, it is important to find “your” coach. Take individual and group classes with different teachers. A good dancer does not always equal a good coach. I recommend taking individual training first to understand your own needs: what exactly do you want to get from twerking? Lose weight, loosen up, pump up... etc. An experienced coach immediately sees the type and build of the figure, finds out whether there were or are any injuries, and then he will direct you in the right direction.

How quickly can you learn to twerk?

I've been dancing for about 20 years, roughly speaking. Graduated from the Kharkov Academy of Culture (Choreographer - Director), Master of Arts in ballroom dancing. She studied ballet, pole sports, taught strip plastic, fitness, step aerobics, and stretching. I am a certified TRX trainer and yoga practitioner.

You cannot compare your level of training with the level of your coach. For some, a month is enough, for others it will take a year or two. It all depends on the regularity, patience, desire and professionalism of the trainer.

Twerking exercises

I start my workout with joint exercises, warm up my muscles with squats, planks, abdominal exercises and push-ups. Afterwards I give a little stretching and go ahead: “...shake, shake, shake er es, shake thet ess for mi, kammon girl...”

Twerk clothes

It is worth choosing the clothes in which the girl feels comfortable and sexy. This could be sweatpants, shorts, leggings, a bag, a swimsuit... I recommend shorts, a top, comfortable sneakers and knee pads.

Should you start twerking?

Yes! Because TWERK is sex. This is freedom, maximum immersion into yourself and your body. This type of dance gradually removes tension in the body, pumps up and tightens the butt, abdominal muscles, legs and arms. Stretches the groin muscles and deep gluteal muscles, which are often very tight. Relaxes the internal organs of the pelvis. Adds a feeling of self-confidence and sexuality. And of course...men are crazy about twerking! If you know what I mean (smiles).

It is important to learn to accept both “light” and “dark” in yourself. We ourselves give color to the world. So... "Dancing, sports and beauty - you are beautiful, ta ta ta"!)

Almost two dozen very different, pretty and smiling girls are dancing in a small hall with wall-length mirrors. When they see us, the girls are a little lost at first, but after ten minutes they forget about strangers and get carried away by the rhythm of the dance.

Mesmerizing hip movements to trendy music are actually not as simple as they might seem - by the end of the class, the room smells like a gym. After the dance, we catch up with some of the girls and ask why they decided to twerk and how their friends and family feel about it.

Firuza, 23 years old:

I've been twerking for 4 months. He immediately fascinated me with his impulsiveness, it is very close to my spirit. I used to study oriental dances, then I accidentally found out that a studio had opened in Almaty that taught twerking. I went to a master class, and then, without hesitation, signed up for Loca dance. I would like to see twerking taught not only there, but also in other parts of the city. So that girls can learn to control their bodies and feel attractive. Thanks to twerking I lost it extra pounds, the waist became thinner, the posture leveled. This is so great! My family says that for Almaty this is a very sharp and provocative dance. But I assure them there is nothing vulgar about twerking. Twerking can be beautiful. In general, I am an independent girl, and have already reached adulthood, so I choose what to do myself.

Asel, 21 years old:

I saw a video on Youtube and I wanted to learn how to dance the same way. I was looking for a studio where they taught twerking, then I signed up for Loca dance. The family reacts calmly to the twerking craze: “It’s the 21st century, and there’s nothing vulgar about it!”

Darina, 20 years old:

I've been twerking for 5 months. Both parents and friends react only positively. I tried a lot of different dances - from strip dancing to pole dancing, but twerking has the greatest physical load: on the legs, on the buttocks, on the spine. It was hard at first. For example, the next day after class you wake up in the morning and realize that you are unable to get out of bed! Then gradually the body and organism get used to it. This dance definitely affects your figure in the best way.

Elena, 20 years old:

I learned about twerking from my friend Darina, with whom I study in the same group. At one time, this dance created so much hype that I involuntarily became interested. From the outside, twerking really seems quite explicit, but it all depends on the movements. Some dance it very depravedly, which is why there is negativity towards twerking. At first my friends had a violent reaction: “Twerk?! Are you doing THIS?” And then they saw me dancing, and their opinion changed. They watched my growth: after four months of training, I managed to do the splits. Now my friends support me and are proud of what I do. I am a modest person by nature, and at first I also thought that twerking was too frivolous. And now I feel myself opening up in this dance. I come to classes and enjoy them. For me, twerking is not just a dance with heavy physical activity, but a psychological release with which I can throw out accumulated emotions.

Tamara Korzh, choreographer of the Loca dance studio, became the first to teach twerking in Almaty. The popularity of the dance is gradually gaining momentum, and several twerking groups have already formed in the studio.

Twerking is like jazz of the 21st century, it’s still a little new and still shocks many, but it will pass. Each generation should simply look back at their dances - the dances that were a scandal to their parents.

- Tell me, where did twerk come from?

The dance was born in Africa, and together with the Africans migrated to America. Gradually, folk African motifs gave way to hip-hop and trap music. Trap is an electronic genre dance music, which gained insane popularity in 2010. This is the most suitable musical style for shaking. By the way, in Brazil elements of twerking are performed to Brazilian music, and in Cuba they shake to reggaeton (music that has become widespread in Latin American countries).

- Why did twerking become popular only a couple of years ago?

I think it’s no secret to anyone that the excitement around the dance first arose after the scandalous performance of Miley Cyrus. It was then that people began to become interested in him everywhere. In general, this dance has existed since ancient times, and in modern culture it could be seen even before the arrival of Miley Cyrus - in the videos of Beyoncé, Shakira, 50 Cent and other Western performers.

Miley Cyrus dances at the ceremonyMTV Video Music Awards2013 shocked the public so much that it immediately turned into an Internet meme, becoming the subject of photoshoots and funny videos.

- Is it difficult to learn to twerk?

If you master the twerking technique correctly, it’s not difficult. And if you don’t know how, and are just trying to repeat the movements from a video on Youtube, then difficulties may arise. After the first lessons, girls have very bad lower back and leg pain, because twerking is usually danced in a squat position. Imagine, you sit practically on your haunches for almost an hour. But the result makes itself felt within a month. You will immediately see how your butt tightens and how your legs become slimmer. I have never noticed in any dance style that female figures take shape so quickly!

- Who did you study with?

In our country, twerking is still poorly developed, and there was no one to learn from. I spent a year on self-study of this style. I went to Russia for master classes and saw girls dancing at battles. In general, this direction is much more popular with them than with us. In Russia, the main centers of twerking are Novosibirsk and Moscow. By the way, it is believed that it is in Siberia that girls shake very well. And in Kazakhstan I already give master classes myself. Last year I was invited to Petropavlovsk to show this style and teach how to “shake” correctly. I am glad that in our country twerking is gradually taking root, and choreographers are trying to study what is missing in their own studios.

You have repeatedly mentioned the connection between twerking and African culture. Is it true that African women dance better than ours?

There is a deal of truth in it. First of all, African women have a slightly different body structure, a different physiology, a good arch and butt by nature. And if they have been dancing since childhood, then, of course, they are better at it.

You've probably heard about the scandal that occurred after the publication of a video online under the innocuous title " Winnie the Pooh and bees." 24 million views per Youtube, furious discussions among Internet users and even interest from investigative authorities - the reason for it all was a twerk performed by schoolgirls from Orenburg. What position do you take in this matter?

Twerk is a relatively new dance style, and in such provincial cities like Orenburg, it is not very developed. Therefore, it is possible that the choreographers deliberately staged a provocative dance and themselves “leaked” it online for self-promotion. Or it may be that the teacher choreographed the dance without a second thought, not knowing how it would turn out. In any case, the girls' parents probably knew what dances their daughters were going to. And they themselves are responsible for their children. Whether or not to send a child to twerk is a personal decision for each parent. For example, I have a group in which a mother and daughter study. They dance together and they both love it!

After the wide public outcry associated with the dance "Winnie the Pooh and the Bees", dance school"Credo" closed the twerking class.

- Do you set any restrictions on the age of dancers?

My classes have a “16+” limit. But sometimes girls themselves don’t want to tell their age. In fact, it all depends on the mentality. For example, in Cuba they perform dances with elements of twerking from the age of three, and in pairs. And in Jamaica they dance twerk in a very aggressive form - this can be felt both in the music itself and in the movements. The girls are shaking in convulsions and literally falling into the splits. In France, teachers prefer a different style - it is softer and more feminine. I don't like to dance aggressively, I like to add more femininity to the dance, even if it's twerking.

It's no secret that many people view twerking with a fair amount of skepticism. Can you explain why twerking is good?

For some reason, we like to associate this dance with eroticism and debauchery. And African-American women, for example, dance it joyfully. For them it’s a dance of fun, they’re having fun. Twerking is, first of all, a dance. And dance gives a sense of rhythm, develops musicality, and allows you to open up. Secondly, twerking has a great effect on women's health and figure. And thirdly, it's just fashionable. And if you know how to dance twerk, even some basic movements when you perform it in a club or on a dance floor, it certainly looks cool. Why is twerking good? I think the answer to this question is to just try it first.

Kasymbekova Fatima Dautovna, a gynecologist, shares Tamara’s enthusiasm for twerking. The specialist believes that dance affects a woman’s physical and mental health in the most favorable way.

From a gynecological point of view, I definitely don’t see any downsides. Any physical activity is a training of the cardiovascular and respiratory systems. Blood circulation, venous outflow, and neuromuscular conduction improve. Twerking itself is quite energy-intensive - the muscles of the back, lower back, buttocks, thighs, and abdominals are involved. And, of course, the pelvic floor muscles - for women this is a good prevention of pelvic organ prolapse. In addition, dance has positive influence on the psycho-emotional background of a woman. She becomes more relaxed, feels confident, and her mood lifts.

However, there are also contraindications. Basically, these are general restrictions on physical activity, characteristic of severe diseases of the respiratory system and heart diseases. For spinal injuries, joint diseases and hernias, twerking is contraindicated.

Pregnant women can practice twerking only if there are no pregnancy complications. It is recommended to dance only during the first three months and only if the woman has been twerking for a long time before conceiving a child. It is also undesirable to put yourself at risk if you have gynecological diseases. These include ovarian cysts, uterine fibroids, various types of bleeding and the threat of miscarriage.

It turns out that in order to dance twerk, it is not at all necessary to have big ass and African descent. Today we are seeing a twerking craze all over the world. Everyone dances it - from the skinny Miley Cyrus and the plump Nikki Minaj to schoolgirls from the Russian provinces and ordinary girls from Almaty.

“Twerking is like jazz of the 21st century, it’s still a little new and still shocks many, but it will pass. Each generation should simply look back at their dances - the dances that were a scandal to their parents. Most likely, they will feel pleasant nostalgia. When we look back at the fears of past generations, they seem ridiculous to us. Today's fears will seem funny tomorrow.

Concerns about the sexual aspect of dancing have been one of the most common causes of concern for adults since the 19th century. When you have children, you start to worry about just about everything that has to do with them. It will always be like this. Adults are accustomed to considering this their area of responsibility. And here a conflict occurs: the children are sure that there is nothing bad in dancing, and, in the end, they always defeat their parents. Adults and teenagers simply perceive differently certain pop culture phenomena that we are accustomed to calling provocative. Over the decades, the standards of what is acceptable and decent and what is not have been constantly changing. And in the end, freedom always wins.”
